Are we still a step behind Sony?
Hello fellow gamers and PSP owners! I want to talk about the latest news on the modchip for the Sony PSP. Lately Pox and Ragable from PSP Hacking 101, has finally got their modchip delivered with a bit of difficulty (Its a long story, check their CommuteCast 6 for detail of what happen). From watching their modchip preview show and listening to their comments on installing this modchip, it looks like its very hard to install. In their CommuteCast 7, Pox has mention that to do this install you have to do micro soldering; which is not the same as soldering a modchip on to your playstation. Supposly you need the right type of tool to install it, so you'll be spending 50 bucks or more to get the tools. Yay! More money to spend on. So the people of PSP Hacking 101 recommended to get it professionally done because for the average user your at risk of bricking it. But there is a user name DLEET, who is a professional and successfully installed one himself but he too recommended for the average user to get it installed by some one else who knows how.
So there you have it. It sucks for me because its hard to modify and to get it installed its going to cost me 150 dollars. I am thinking of just buying a another PSP that has firmware version 1.5 or at most 2.6, because I don't know if I want the hassle of trying to install it myself and bricking it or I don't have 100 dollars for the modchip plus another 150 bucks to get it installed. So if anyone local (from Winnipeg, Manitoba) is reading this and has a PSP with firmware 1.5 to 2.6 and wants to sell it or trade it, email me at handheldthis@gmail.com. Or if any of you from Winnipeg that is really good with electronics and can solder a modchip for free or at a good price, please e-mail me and will talk. Oh! One more thing if your an expert in electronics, please also help out Pox and Ragable on how to properly solder the modchip because if you help them you help us all PSP users.
Also another thing I want to comment is Jarobi's post about DS' web browser. Well its sad how a company is debating on something that every DS user would want to have. Sony knew that allowing web browsing capability is what PSP users want. Also I am not too familiar of the cartridge run web browser but I don't think it is upgradable like the PSP. With the Sony PSP it can upgrade and add more features like the next upgrade is rumored to have RSS video feed capability. With a web browser cartridge I don't think you can't upgrade it and have added features like the PSP. And that's the reason why there is a growing dislike of having web browser for the Nintendo DS. Anyways that is my opinion and there you have it folks, stay tune for the podcast episode. Adios Amigos.
